An Organized Garage DOES Matter

Don’t underestimate the importance of an organized garage. Your garage sets the tone of your home. While some might argue that the garage doesn’t matter because it’s “outside” and you hardly see it, I would argue otherwise. While the garage is mostly out of sight, out of mind, it’s most likely the FIRST thing you see when you come home and the last thing you see as you’re leaving the house. Imagine pulling into your garage and actually liking the way it looks. Imagine leaving your garage in the morning and seeing an organized and pretty space to start your day. Wouldn’t that be great?! Here are a few ways you can start getting your garage organized today!

TIP #1:

Declutter. Your garage has probably been storing a lot of things you haven’t touched in years, maybe even decades! It’s an easy dumping ground for things you don’t have a place or in the house. And once those items enter the garage, it’s likely you may never go looking for them again. Let those things go along with the stress a disorganized garage brings.

I recently went through my own garage and found 3 air pumps (might be a little excessive) about 15 paint sticks, and lots of other odds and ends that served no real purpose. I was able to trash quite a few things off just one shelf!

TIP #2:

Use the walls. In a garage there is usually limited floor space, especially if you want your car to fit inside. So try hanging as many things as you can. Rakes, weed eater, shovels, bikes, anything that can hang on a hook. Pegboards are great for this and really inexpensive!

TIP #3:

Don’t try to do it in one day. Organizing a garage can be daunting. With tools, lawn equipment and knickknacks, it can take a long time. Set small goals for yourself over a week’s, month’s or longer time if you need to! Trying to rush and just “get it over with” might not give your dream end results. Do it right the first time and then you won’t have to turn around and redo it in 6 months.

I tell ya, sometimes it’s hard to get motivated to start. But once it’s finished, I always think “why did I wait so long to organize this?!” The time and hard work up front is well worth it. It’s kind of weird to say, but I believe your garage can be organized and actually pretty!

If you have a garage that has been a family dumping ground and don’t have the time or energy to go through everything, I would love to help!
